Step into STEM

Our Mission:

We want to provide young people with the tools to explore

science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Our Mission

Many high school students are unaware and unsure about what exactly is explored in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) university programs. WiSTEM will be hosting STEP Into STEM in Fall 2018 to provide high school students the opportunity to have a hands-on and involved experience of STEM. This will be an all day event with workshops to discover the exciting opportunities in STEM.

Our Impact

Women in STEM at the University of Waterloo was started in 2013. From that start, UWaterloo undergraduate students have been building the Women in STEM community from the ground up. WiSTEM prides itself on creating a space open for women and men from all disciplines to join and participate in the community.

Over the years of WiSTEM's existence, students have come and gone in the UW community, and we have been here to provide company and support for them .

Our Workshops

Step Into STEM will be a day of workshops intended to deepen your understanding of the STEM fields. There will be four workshops, each one covering the four aspects of STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Read below for an overview of the workshops we will be running that day!

UW Robotics will lead an engaging workshop on engineering and how engineers can change the world...

Accenture, a company that answers real business challenges through innovation and deep industry knowledge, will lead an inspiring workshop on design thinking - using creative problem-solving techniques to obtain cutting edge solutions...

Velocity Science will lead a DNA extraction workshop. Get exposed to lab environments, and get a sneak peek of what scientists do every single day...

I chose a STEM field because I felt that it was interesting and challenging. I personally love Science and it is something that I can never get bored of. I hope that I can make a difference in the science world one day.
